Tom & Fiddle Mike

About

Thomas Batchelor and Michael Ginsburg (Fiddle Mike) have been playing music as a duo for four years. With their combined 75 years of musical experience, they've been keeping busy performing at many different venues, ranging from hotels and resorts, festivals, radio stations, bars, private parties, and fundraisers.. Music has always been a part of their lives and continues to be today. 


Tom has been playing guitar and singing/writing music for 35 years. As a graduate student at West Virginia University, he formed a band called Rasta Rafiki, which has put out three full-length releases and played 175 touring dates nationally per year. In 1997 Batchelor and Rifiku went their separate ways, and atom became a member of" The Recipe" Two years later, he broke away from them and formed his own The Tom Batchelor Band, which played a wide array of music from reggae, rock covers, and many originals. Four years ago, Tom started playing with Fiddle Mike, and they play everything from Reggae, Folk, Americana, Celtic and American fiddle music, gypsy jazz, and klezmer tunes. Tom and Mike have been busy traveling and playing in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland since 2014.


Michael began studying classical violin and Celtic Fiddle music at the age of three. He studied at the New England Conservatory of Music youth division, and then he Studied with Earl Carlyss of the Juilliard String Quartet at the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore, Md. In 2005, Michael won first place in the open division of the Oklahoma State Fiddle Championship. Soon after, he began performing with Jana Jae. Ms. Jaw is known as the "First Lady of Country Fiddle," has played on over 100 episodes of the tv show HeeHaw, and is known for her blue fiddle. They traveled performing in Oregon, Idaho, and many venues in Oklahoma. Michael moved to Morgantown, WV, in 2013 and has been playing music there ever since. Fiddle Mike plays all genres of music -from Bach to Bluegrass and everything in between, klezmer, classical, jazz...he plays it all. When he plays with Tom Batchelor-their, music is an energetic mix of diverse sounds that draw the listener into the music and leads them on an extraordinary journey of sound, emotion, and good vibes.
